Due to COVID-19, English as a Second Language classes are cancelled until further notice.

Our English as a Second Language ministry offers conversational English classes for adults in the Tigard area. Our students come speaking many different first languages, including Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Tamil, Russian, and Persian. We welcome students from all countries and who speak all languages.

We group our students in three levels: beginner, advanced beginner, and advanced. We do not do testing but we are a friendly program with emphasis on conversations skills.

We have open enrollment and students can start at any time. Registration happens in class. Our program is a drop-in model which means that students come when they can, but regular attendance is preferred.

Our goal is to help our students feel comfortable and capable speaking English.

Our volunteer tutors do not need to speak another language. Teaching experience is not necessary. We have excellent materials and experienced leaders to support all our volunteers.

Our classes would usually meet on Mondays and Fridays from 10:30 to noon.
There will be no class on the following dates: May 25

  • What they’re saying…

I spent about 2 years enjoying Jubilatte’s warm inviting atmosphere. I’d drink coffee while my kids played in the play area. It was in Jubilatte that I met and began to form relationships with church members and also Pastor Jeremy. When we decided to start attending Sunday worship, it was clear to me what an impact Jubilatte had on my family’s life. Tigard UMC is where we belong. I’m not sure if we would have discovered that if it wasn’t for Jubilatte.
